ABOUT ME
I was raised in a Navy family and spent half my childhood living overseas in Japan, Greece and Puerto Rico, attending U.S. public schools and DOD schools overseas. I mostly homeschooled my five children starting in 1999, but also used public, private, online and co-op programs.
As a homeschool mom, I spent over 20 years researching and applying best education practices for my own children, but have also participated in the Denver Math Fellows program, tutored students in English and math from 4th grade through first year college and have taught English as a Second Language since 2018 to children and adults online and in person through Literacy KC.
I have also taught Political Science and American Government at the community college.
I obtained my first tutoring certificate in 1991 as a 3rd year university student. I have two master's degrees in Political Science and International Education in 2018 with a focus on education for refugee children and university students in Jordan and Lebanon. F Lebanon and Greece. I hold a 120 Hour TESOL certificate and completed over 40 hours of professional training in the state of Missouri for English Language and Adult Learning.
When my children were growing up, I was a lay leader in the Vineyard Community Church in Cincinnati, Ohio under Pastor Steve Sjogren and at Colorado Community Church in Aurora, Colorado with Pastor Robert Gelinas. I led bible studies and small groups for many years. I also volunteered in the community as a tutor and softball coach. I have taught swimming for over 30 years, starting with the YMCA at age 17 and hold a Water Safety Instructor certification from the American Red Cross. I currently teach swimming at a community center and attend a Baptist church in Kansas City.
